Overview

Welcome to the Maplewood Library Page!

We are pleased to help your students find library books and resources that meet their academic requirements, and also infuse a love of reading. Each class visits the library once a week for a literacy lesson, and to check out books. Students are responsible for keeping their library books safe from harm and to return them on time. Kindergarten and first grade students may check out one book at a time, while second through sixth grade may check out two books. Intermediate students may check out a third book for school assignments and projects as needed. The staff provides students assistance in selecting books in their reading range and interest areas.

Additional Information

Accelerated Reader

Students in the Puyallup School District may participate in the Accelerated Reading program in which they take quizzes on the Renaissance Learning website on books they have read. This program, along with Star Reading, helps students, teachers and families track reading comprehension progress. The library staff and teachers help students select books they are interested in within their reading range. Students may only take quizzes at school, however, each student's reading record can be accessed at home so that families can share information about their student's progress in Accelerated Reader.

You can log on to Renaissance Home Connect from any computer with an Internet connection and compatible browser. To log in to Renaissance Home Connect, please use this website:

Then use your child's User Name and Password to access his or her record. If your child does not have this information, contact your teacher or the library staff.

Lost or Damaged Books

Students and their families are responsible for the school library books and textbooks that are checked out in their names.

Students with books and textbooks that are lost or damaged beyond repair will be issued a fine according to the replacement cost of that book.

They have the option of either paying the fine by check or exact cash or by buying a new copy of the book and donating it to the library. Some book damage can be repaired. In that case the librarian will assess the damage and charge a lower fine according to materials needed.

Overdue Books

There are no Overdue Fines for library books.
Kindergarten and first grade students may keep a book one week.
Second and third grade students may keep a book two weeks, and fourth through sixth grade students may keep a book for three weeks.
Third through sixth grade students may renew their library books one time.

Once a book is considered overdue, the student may not check out any more books until the overdue book is returned.

Overdue and Fine emails are sent out automatically every two weeks to the email address on file at the school. Additionally, notices may be sent home in a student's backpack.
